Feds to probe fatal shooting involving North Carolina deputy
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Federal officials say they are investigating whether any laws were violated when a North Carolina sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man as he sat on the porch of his home.
The FBI in Charlotte issued a statement Tuesday that the agency, the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District have opened an investigation.
Local media outlets report that a grand jury met April 11 to consider the shooting last November involving Deputy Nichols Kehagias. The grand jury decided not to return an indictment.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Authorities say John Livingston II was shot three times after he refused to let Kehagias search the home without a warrant. They say an argument involving the two, both white, preceded the shooting.
