Feds investigating Brandeis University over handling of sexual misconduct probe

A federal investigation is under way to determine whether Brandeis University violated a student's civil rights in its handling of a sexual misconduct investigation.

According to WBUR, the complaint to the Department of Education was filed by a male student who was found guilty by the university of sexual misconduct.

In the complaint, obtained by WBUR, the man accuses the school of gender discrimination. He claims another student accused him of sexual assault without the chance for him to have a hearing before the school brought disciplinary charges against him, the station reports.

The complaint also alleges that Brandeis did not grant the man access to a lawyer during disciplinary proceedings, while his accuser was allowed to have an attorney present, according to WBUR.
