25 West Virginians lucky to be unlucky after lotto snafu

Human error is being blamed for incorrect winning numbers in a recent West Virginia Lottery Daily 3 drawing.

The correct numbers drawn Friday evening were 9-2-8. But lottery machines statewide briefly displayed and validated 1-2-3 as the winning numbers.

Lottery spokesman Randy Burnside tells the Charleston Daily Mail that a manual entry error at GTECH, the Lottery's system vendor, caused the problem. He says the error was corrected within hours of the drawing and validations of the incorrect number combination were suspended.

In an interview Tuesday with FoxNews.com, Burnside said GTECH offered to pay any ticketholder with the incorrect numbers for the amount they would have won, or about $4,000 in total to the 25 incorrect holders.
