2 men stopped at NYC airports over guns
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Two people were stopped at New York City airports Wednesday after trying to bring weapons aboard airplanes, authorities said.
At John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens, a man was arrested after Transportation Security Administration officers opened two of his checked bags and found two crossbows, three starter pistols, two BB guns (including a BB rifle), a stun gun, handcuffs and several bow arrows, the agency said in a press release.
The man, whose name was not immediately released, was arrested on local weapons charges, the release said.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Also on Wednesday, a 94-year-old Brooklyn resident was stopped by TSA officers after they detected a loaded .38 caliber handgun clipped to his belt as he entered a checkpoint at LaGuardia Airport. It was not immediately clear if the man, whose name also wasn't released, was charged with a crime.
Nearly 2,000 firearms have been stopped at airport checkpoints across the country this year, the TSA said.
