2 men stopped at NYC airports over guns

Two people were stopped at New York City airports Wednesday after trying to bring weapons aboard airplanes, authorities said.

At John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens, a man was arrested after Transportation Security Administration officers opened two of his checked bags and found two crossbows, three starter pistols, two BB guns (including a BB rifle), a stun gun, handcuffs and several bow arrows, the agency said in a press release.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was arrested on local weapons charges, the release said.

Also on Wednesday, a 94-year-old Brooklyn resident was stopped by TSA officers after they detected a loaded .38 caliber handgun clipped to his belt as he entered a checkpoint at LaGuardia Airport. It was not immediately clear if the man, whose name also wasn't released, was charged with a crime.

Nearly 2,000 firearms have been stopped at airport checkpoints across the country this year, the TSA said.
