2 injured, suspect in custody after stabbing at Rutgers Business School in New Jersey

Two people were stabbed Friday at Rutgers Business School in Piscataway, New Jersey and a suspect is in custody.

The website NJ.com reported the attacker was a former student, who was being treated for self-inflicted wounds.  It identified the two victims as a Rutgers faculty member and student.

All three were treated for injuries.

The attack reportedly took place in a university office.

Students said that they heard screams and saw a woman covered in blood on the fifth floor of the building.

"I just heard the screams. Some faculty members went to the room and wanted to figure out what happened. Then another guy called the police and said, 'Somebody is stabbing. There's blood everywhere,'" Suiyi Jiang, a Rutgers Business School junior, told the student newspaper.

Rutgers University posted the following statement on Facebook:

A suspect is in custody following a stabbing incident that occurred at the Rutgers Business School in Piscataway, New Jersey at approximately 2:30 this afternoon. There is no danger to the community.Three individuals, including the suspect are currently being treated for their injuries.The investigation is ongoing and additional details will be released as they become available.

The university sent out an alert just before 3 p.m. Friday saying there had been a stabbing at the business school in New Brunswick and telling people to avoid the area and take shelter. About a half-hour later, the school sent another alert saying a suspect was in custody and the area was safe.

A school spokesman could not be reached for comment.
