A new poll on what Americans think about the border chaos: that is the subject of this evening's "Talking Points Memo."

A scientific poll by Fox News/Opinion Dynamics says the following: an astounding 91 percent of Americans believe the illegal immigration problem is very serious or somewhat serious. Just 2 percent don't think it's much of a problem. Sixty-seven percent of Americans favor putting the U.S. military on the borders to stop illegals from crossing. Twenty-four percent oppose that. And 44 percent of Americans feel the Minutemen are concerned citizens. Thirty-four percent see them as vigilantes. Twenty-two percent don't know what they are.

Now that data indicates the border is a vital issue for most Americans. Yet as you know, the federal government seems paralyzed in the face of the immigration chaos. The question is will everyday Americans rise up and demand to be protected? And the answer is, not until there's another 9/11.

We're simply too distracted by our own lives to take illegal immigration personally. And that's what it will take to move the federal government. Deep, personal anger on the part of the folks.

About 250,000 Americans have signed a border petition, and it's available for signing on billoreilly.com. --Outside of contacting your elected reps and the petition, that's about all we can do at this point.

We are living in dangerous times, as you know. Hostile forces overseas want to kill us. Hostile forces within the USA want drastic changes in this country, including open borders. Some Americans have figured the danger out. Most have not. Frightening.

And that's "The Memo."
