The Hunt is on for a Potential Assassin

GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, HOST: Tonight, the search is on for 59-year-old Lawrence Ward who may be on a mission to assassinate President Bush. Ward was last seen at his upstate New York home loading a hunting rifle into his trunk. Inside his home, neighbors found a picture of President Bush with the words "dead man" over it.

Here's what Ward says about Oklahoma City bomber and mass murderer Timothy McVeigh:

LAWRENCE WARD: I proclaim this June 11 to be McVeigh Day when all men and women of honor will recall the noble and dignified sacrifice of this most honorable young man who kept the torch of liberty alive in the nightmare of fascism that overtook the United States in the last half of the 20th Century.

VAN SUSTEREN: Joining us from Albany, New York is Ken Lovett who is covering the story for The New York Post. Ken, of course, it cannot go un-responded the idea of calling Timothy McVeigh noble is such a far stretch. But anyway having said that is this man nuts? Is he a criminal? Where is he and why do they want him?

KEN LOVETT, "NEW YORK POST": Well, he's not a criminal yet. At least, that's what the Secret Service is saying. There was a warrant put out for him for his arrest a couple of days ago but that has since tonight been rescinded. There just isn't enough evidence to charge him yet.

But Secret Service wants to know where he is, what he's doing and who he's talking to. They want him to come in and talk to them. Nobody seems to know where he is right now.

VAN SUSTEREN: All right. So, step back. When was he last seen and where?

LOVETT: Well, he was seen on Sept. 9th. He was in his Bainbridge home. He was leaving and he was loading up his car with, you know, a hunting rifle and some other things, his computer.

He went over. He saw some neighbors. He handed them the keys to his house and he said, "Go in and take anything you want. I'm not coming back."

Now, this is a house he owns. He paid cash for it. He said, "I'm not coming back."

Well, when people went into the house they were alarmed to see a picture of President Bush with some Orwellian slogans next to it with a big, in spray-painted letters, "dead man." They also found on the floor spray painted an expletive and spray painted on the window a dollar sign.

It's since been learned or we found out that it doesn't look like he did that. It looks like some teenagers who were with him did that but he knew about it. It wasn't done as a hoax after he left but actually beforehand back in June. It's been on his wall since then. Supposedly, some neighbors said he said that he wants to kill the president and that's what's got people concerned obviously.

VAN SUSTEREN: I read someplace that he's also threatened Senator Kerry. Have you heard that?

LOVETT: No. That's untrue. I think there was a mix-up because there is a CD that he sent to his wife and it's about an hour of him basically ranting about Timothy McVeigh.

We got a hold of that CD and he does mention Bush and Kerry. Nowhere in that 60 minutes or so does he talk about killing either one of them. He calls them Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. He says that he wants people to write him in, Larry Ward, for president on the "Common Sense Party."

VAN SUSTEREN: Let me ask you quickly before I lose you because the American people maybe can help on this. I know that the warrant has been rescinded but Secret Service want to talk to this man. Do you have any idea what kind of car he might be driving? He's a man who obviously sounds extremely dangerous.

LOVETT: Well, that's out there. The local police do have that with the license plate. He is supposedly, according to at least what police have been told locally in Bainbridge by Secret Service, he's not as dangerous to other people. He's dangerous to the president or that's what they feel.

VAN SUSTEREN: Well, that will do it for us anyway.

LOVETT: Exactly.

VAN SUSTEREN: I mean dangerous to one person and dangerous to the president, we got to find this man. Anyway Ken, thank you.

LOVETT: Thank you, Greta.
