Texas Senate runoff election moves into national spotlight

ERIC BOLLING, GUEST HOST: My next guest is hoping to land a job in the United States, that is, the United States Senate, in fact.

And when polls close in Texas tomorrow, he'll know if he is one step closer. Ted Cruz is a Tea Party-backed candidate running to replace Republican Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, who's retiring.

And forget don't mess with Texas. A new poll suggests don't mess with this guy, up by 10 points in the latest PPP poll.

Ted Cruz joins us now.

We should also mention we reached out to Ted's opponent in Texas, Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst. We're hoping to get him on the show either tomorrow or later in the week.

But let me start with you. Mr. Cruz, let's talk about this for a little bit. There's been a lot of money spent on your opponent's campaign. The media dismissed you. Yet, you're up by 10 percent. How are you doing that?

TED CRUZ (R), TEXAS SENATORIAL CANDIDATE: Well, it's been an extraordinary campaign, Eric.

The momentum we are seeing on the ground is phenomenal. And the reason is simple. Conservatives have united behind this campaign.

Republican women, Tea Party activists, grassroots leaders have come together. This race has been called ground zero in the national battle between the moderate establishment desperately clinging to power and the conservative tidal wave sweeping this country.

BOLLING: You know, we -- this show is all about business. We talked earlier about companies not hiring. They're buying their own stock back.

We talked about a company, a medical device maker, who said ObamaCare -- the tax buried into ObamaCare is forcing him not to expand. And then we talked to two people from the CEO -- from the Chamber of Commerce here in the United States and in Canada.

What's with the business climate here? And what -- if you are a senator, Ted Cruz, what would you do to change it?

CRUZ: Well, unfortunately, for the past three years, President Obama has waged a war on jobs and a war on small businesses.

Right now, the federal government is like a boot on the back of the neck of small businesses. And we need leaders in Washington, D.C., who will stand up and stop the Obama war on jobs.

I'm running on a 12-point jobs and growth plan. The first six steps are stop the...

BOLLING: OK. Give me -- yes, give me -- give me -- give me the first two. Give me the two biggest ones.

CRUZ: Repeal ObamaCare. Revoke the offshore drilling moratorium. Stop the abuse of enforcement of environmental laws. Slash the corporate tax rate.

Stop the assault on right-to-work states. Repeal Dodd-Frank. Allow small and medium companies to opt out of Sarbanes-Oxley. And then we've got to dramatically shrink the spending in government and pass a strong balanced budget amendment, so we can get the federal government and our debt under control.

BOLLING: We've going to have to leave it there.

Ted Cruz, we will touch back with the polls tomorrow. They will close tomorrow. And we will know who is going to take the Republican nomination.
