Grapevine: School district banning birthday cake
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...
Secret Deal
Possible presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has reportedly made a secret deal with top aide Huma Abedin to keep Abedin's husband, Anthony Weiner, quiet.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The New York Post reports, Clinton aides have insisted the former congressman stay out of public life for two years and -- quote -- "avoid causing further embarrassment to Huma or Clinton."
Weiner left office in disgrace after a sexting scandal, in which he sent revealing pictures to women.
His campaign for New York mayor was also derailed by sexting issues.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Earlier this month, he endorsed a tweet that said -- quote -- "Tinder will now be the ultimate sext machine."
He later tweeted the first message was an accident.
The Search Isn't Over
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}House Oversight Committee Chair Darrell Issa is expanding his search for communications from former IRS official Lois Lerner.
He now wants all her messages -- e-mail and otherwise -- dating back to her hiring by the Federal Election Commission in the 1980's.
But that was before the advent of commercial e-mail.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The IRS says many of Lerner's e-mails about the targeting of conservative groups have been destroyed.
Banning Birthday Cake
And finally, a Seattle-area school district is banning birthday cake.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Officials in Edmonds call it a healthy step to cut kids' sugar intake.
Instead of sweet treats schools may hand out pencils, origami frogs, and extra recess time for kids celebrating birthdays. Oh joy!
A school district official says the ban is part of an effort to promote more exercise and wellness.
