And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...

Forging Ahead

Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio says President Obama’s birth certificate is a forgery.

This afternoon Arpaio announced the results of his investigation into the authenticity of the document.

Arpaio's "cold-case posse" - consisting of former law enforcement officers and lawyers with law enforcement experience - claimed to have found inconsistencies regarding that document... and the President's Selective Service card.

Obama Campaign Spokesman Ben Labolt tweeted a link to the news conference -- along with a link to birth certificate souvenir mugs available on the campaign website -- that poke fun at the so-called birther conspiracy.

The Arizona Republican sheriff’s probe comes amid his own legal troubles.

A federal grand jury is looking into alleged abuse of power by Arpaio -- and the justice department has accused his office of racially profiling Latinos. Arapaio says he will continue the document investigation.

Going Negative

We told you earlier about the death of conservative publisher Andrew Breitbart.

Some of the reaction to his passing -- has been harsh.

Slate writer Matt Yglesias tweeted -- "The world outlook is slightly improved with Andrew Breitbart dead."

That kind of negativity runs counter to a column posted Tuesday

-- By a fellow slate writer asking -- in the case of children's book author Jan Berenstain -- “can we wait a few hours before attacking the dead?"

The article goes on to say -- quote -- "I wonder if the absolute opportune moment to attack a writer -- say -- is as their family plans a funeral --

As their children experience that feeling Freud describes as being 'torn up by the roots.'"

Sex, Lies and Videotape

And finally -- the ex-girlfriend of billionaire financier George Soros says she has recorded conversations supporting her claim -- that he reneged on a promise to buy her a two-million dollar apartment.

The New York Post sourced court papers filed this week -- as part of Brazilian soap star Adriana Ferreyr.

Soros' lawyer says the case has no merit.
