I'm sure you caught that friendly reminder from the IRS right above where you sign the form.
You know what I'm talking about.
Quote -- "Under penalties of perjury, I declare that I have examined this return and accompanying schedules and statements, and to the best of my knowledge and belief, they are true, correct, and complete."
Talk about scary.
I think we should have the government sign the same exact thing.
If they're going to hold us accountable for every penny we're giving them, I say we hold them accountable for every penny they're spending, courtesy us.
I mean, isn't that a bit much, the government threatening anyone for being late? On anything?
No, they can move back deadlines, and budgets, and mandates, but that doesn't mean we should be getting any bright ideas over this date.
Like maybe blowing them off. For once, wouldn't you just love to just scribble on your 1040 -- "sorry, no can-do paying you right now having a bit of a cash flow problem. I'll get back to 'ya."
See how that goes.
Not well.
Because the government can be late getting refunds out to us, but that doesn't mean we can be late, getting money out to them.
No, the government can harass us.
But we better not so much as question them.
They might not be good at math, but we sure as hell better be.
Because the government needn't account for its spending.
But we sure as hell better account for the money we are giving them to spend.
The government can investigate us.
Good luck letting us investigate the government.
Or even the government investigate itself.
No, the IRS can cross a line going after conservatives.
But we better get every line on that tax return right or they are coming after us.
The IRS even has the President of the United States backing them up.
Who the hell is backing us up?
We're guilty until proven innocent.
Not a "smidgeon of scandal" at the IRS and the investigation's not even done.
I'm done.
This isn't about a double standard, my friends.
This is about no standards.
No accountability.
No remorse.
No guilt.
Not even a smidgeon of shame for conduct that I think is frankly, shameless.
You would think above that above that "under threat of perjury" line, the IRS would simply add another -- "Do as we say, not as we do."
At least they'd be acknowledging their hypocrisy.
Even as they're bleeding us dry.
