VILLE PLATTE, La. – A driver has been charged with vehicular homicide after killing a 71-year-old woman in her bed.
The single-vehicle accident took place shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday on La. Highway 29 just south of Ville Platte.
State police say 24-year-old Keyowaski Doucet of Ville Platte was heading north when he lost control of his car.
Troopers say Doucet's car traveled off the roadway, traveled across two private yards and struck the home were Beverly Ann Fontenot was asleep.
Doucet, who was not injured, was booked with careless operation of a motor vehicle, driving under suspension and driving while intoxicated in addition to one count of vehicular homicide.
