A small attic fire in a San Jose home has turned into a major marijuana discovery.

When firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from an attic of the house Tuesday evening, they found marijuana plants growing throughout the three-bedroom residential home.

Authorities say there were nearly 200 marijuana plants, with an estimated street value of up to $1 million in the house.

A fire official says the residents of the home had installed an elaborate ventilation system for the plants.

The electrical circuit had also been bypassed, so the occupants weren't paying for electricity.

Police are searching for a married couple who were renting the home.

As for the fire in the home, that was put out within 20 minutes. The cause has not been determined.
