You know what I’m thankful for this Thanksgiving?

I'm thankful for celebrating the day with my family, even though thousands of soldiers are not.

I'm thankful I’m protected over here, because they're watching out for me over there.

I'm thankful for a hot meal, even though they'd be thankful for almost any meal.

I'm thankful I’m free to do a job I love, because they're doing a job with bravery I cannot comprehend.

I'm thankful to see in the eyes of a daughter the great promise of a country made possible by the heroism of a few.

I'm thankful they never waiver, even though many in my profession do.

I'm thankful they love the flag, even though I wonder whether many in my profession ever did.

I'm thankful they can take the heat, while all I have to do is report on the heat.

I'm thankful they're brave, and I’m just in awe.

I'm thankful they're everything that is right about this country, and I just cover this country.

I wear fancy suits. They don't.

I talk to the financial rulers of the earth. They're stuck fighting the scum of the earth.

I'm not fit to judge them, so I won't. But I am fit to thank them, and I will.

To all who defend our freedoms, my freedom, hear this.

I couldn't do what I do now...or say what I say now...if you weren't putting it all on the line now.

Sometimes it seems like some of us in this country forget that.

Let me be the first to say the vast majority of us knows that.

And knows you.

And admires you.

And thanks you.

On a day you should be with your families but you are not.

On a day we can be safe at home with our families because you are not.

I'm wise enough to know I’ve got a good thing going in this country.

And I’m grateful enough to know it's possible because of you guys so far from this country.

That's why it's important to say happy Thanksgiving.

But not nearly as important as saying thanks for just giving.
