Germany's federal police say they are analyzing a new posting on an extremist Web site that threatens attacks in the country in October.

The message surfaced Sunday on an Islamic militant Web site that has carried statements and videos from Al Qaeda linked groups in the past.

It follows a series of videos released before the Sept. 27 national election that made references of jihad, or holy war, and retribution against Germany but did not mention any specific threats.

The new posting threatens an attack on a Sunday in October and mentions Berlin, Bonn, Frankfurt and Hamburg as potential targets though suggests other cities were also possible.

Federal police say they are aware of the threat and are analyzing it but would give no further details.
