We Are Not Protecting the Kids

Hi, I'm Bill O'Reilly.  Thanks for watching us tonight.

We are not protecting the kids.  That is the subject of this evening's Talking Points Memo.  Last night we played you a harrowing 911 call from a 12-year-old named Tyler Kay, who was pleading with Houston operators to save him from his parents.  Katherine and Kendall Kay went to prison for savagely beating Tyler and his six siblings went to foster homes.

Now, Mrs. Kay is out of jail, and incredibly Judge David Dunn has returned the children to her custody; excepting Tyler, who's living with his grandparents.

Since the kids were all found to be neglected and sexual abuse was suspected in the case, what Judge Dunn was doing was what, atrocious, right?  The answer is he was clearing the case; at least that's what's on the record, because the cowardly Dunn will not talk.

And what about the court-appointed attorney for the kids, Michelle Merendino?  Well, she's all for the kids going back to the abusive mother.  Makes her life easier as well.

In just a few moments, we'll tell you about this alleged monster in California who authorities say kidnapped and raped a 9-year-old girl.  He was arraigned today.

But all Americans should be getting the picture here.  We as a society are not nearly as vengeful as we should be against those who abuse children.  Adults who brutalize kids should never again be allowed that opportunity.  One strike and you're out.  Society must put down the gauntlet.

Instead the ACLU is fighting for the rights of the North America Man-Boy Love Association.  Some psychiatrists and academics are urging compassion and understanding for pedophiles.  Even the Catholic Churches been deeply damaged by its failure to responsibly confront the issue.

It's time for a federal law mandating federal penalties for abuse of children, both in and out of the home.  We simply cannot trust judges like David Dunn and district attorneys, like Brooklyn's Charles Heinz, who cut a deal with a woman who scalded her 4-year-old daughter to death, allowing her probation.  We cannot trust these people.

If the federal government can pass hate crime legislation and protect minorities, then it can pass kid crime legislation and protect children.  Enough with the incest, assaults, kidnappings and brutalizations; America needs a federal presence to counteract the insanity that is taking place in the chaotic local state and local systems.

Every social service worker will tell you things are out of control.  President Bush and all the members of Congress have an obligation to try to fix this problem.

The Most Ridiculous Item of the Day

Time now for "The Most Ridiculous Item of the Day"...

Our pal, Bill Moyers, who does a weekly program on PBS, is becoming more aggressive in his analysis, at least off camera.  According to a report in The Nation magazine, Moyers told a conference in Washington that the Bush administration is plotting, "the deliberate intentional destruction of the United States of America."

Wow!  And we hope that, before that happens, Bill Moyers and PBS get their yearly stipend from the American taxpayers.  It would be ridiculous to have the country fall apart before the PBS money kicked in.
