ROME – A video of a toddler being mistreated at a Tuscan day care center is shocking Italy.
In the video shown on Italian TV Friday, an aide is seen pulling the 14-month-old girl's hair, shoving food into her mouth when the tot refuses to eat, hitting her twice on a hand and yanking her violently from a tiny chair.
Reports say in another scene, a 10-month-old boy is slapped on the head when he won't eat.
The owner and a worker at the Cip e Ciop center in the town of Pistoia have been jailed while prosecutors investigate suspected mistreatment.
A video camera was planted in the center after parents told police their children were refusing to eat and crying at night. Lawyers for the suspects have denied any mistreatment.
