Veteran Kills Woman in Attempted Murder-Suicide at Fort Lewis

FORT LEWIS, Wash. – The Army says a 59-year-old male veteran shot and killed a civilian woman at a Fort Lewis store in an attempted murder-suicide.

Fort Lewis officials said in a news release that the retired soldier from Lakewood, Wash., is in critical condition at the Madigan Army Medical Center. They did not release his name.

Military police responded the shooting at the Post Exchange just after 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Army did not release the woman's name or age, but said she was a civilian vendor working in the store.
