A Utah man defending his girlfriend was slashed multiple times with a filet knife that his attacker had been wearing as a necklace, according to the Deseret News.

The victim, who was not identified, told police that he got into a fight with 22-year-old Matthew Bryan Stone of Salt Lake City on Nov. 10.

The fight escalated when Stone insulted the victim’s girlfriend, with the victim throwing his soda at Stone in retaliation, the Deseret News reported Tuesday.

Stone then took off a curved filet knife he had been wearing around his neck and slashed the other man in the face, arm and chest, according to the Deseret News. The injured boyfriend got about 65 stitches at a local hospital.

Stone faces felony charges of aggravated assault. At this time, he has not been caught.
