An American soldier was killed Monday in a roadside bombing southeast of Baghdad and another U.S. trooper died the day before in a clash in northern Iraq, the U.S. command said.

The soldier from Multinational Division-Baghdad died about 11:10 a.m. in the blast but his name was withheld pending notification of kin, the U.S. said.

In a separate statement, the military said a U.S. soldier was killed and another wounded Monday near the northern city of Tal Afar. The dead soldier was assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division.

The fatalities raised to at least 2,421 the number of members of the U.S. military who have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
