UNITED NATIONS – The United Nations says a U.N. plane crashed into a mountain in Haiti killing all 11 people on board.
The surveillance plane assigned to the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Haiti crashed Friday near the border with the Dominican Republic with military personnel on board, the United Nations said.
U.N. spokeswoman Michele Montas said the Uruguayan plane went down in rugged terrain west of Fonds-Verrettes.
Rescue teams were sent to the area on foot, because there are no roads in the area.
The 9,000-strong U.N. peacekeeping force has been in Haiti since a 2004 rebellion ousted former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
