LONDON – A British court has convicted a father of murdering his teenage daughter for a romance with a man from a different branch of Islam.
London's Central Criminal Court sentenced Mehmet Goren to life imprisonment for the so-called honor killing. Thursday's conviction came a decade after the man's daughter, 15-year-old Tulay Goren, disappeared.
Prosecutor Damaris Lakin said Mehmet Goren killed his daughter for nothing more than having a relationship he did not approve of.
Mehmet Goren and two of his brothers were arrested in 2008. All three were charged with murder, but the two brothers were acquitted Thursday.
Tulay Goren has not been seen alive since 1999. Police never found out how she was killed or where her body is.
