An Italian chef and cooking show host was rushed to the hospital after stabbing himself in the chest with a kitchen knife at his London apartment, the Daily Mail reported Friday.

TV chef Antonio Carluccio was in the intensive care unit at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital after doctors feared the blade may have punctured his lung.

It is not clear whether Carluccio, 71, was trying to kill himself. His spokeswoman said she does not know yet if the stabbing was a suicide attempt, the Daily Mail reported.

“He has been in hospital but any health issue is a private matter so we cannot offer any further comment. We do not have any further details,” the spokeswoman told the Mail.

An ambulance was called to Carluccio’s apartment in Battersea, south London, on Monday. He owns a chain of Italian restaurants, and appears on BBC cooking shows such as “Saturday Kitchen.”
