President Bush in Atlanta for a speech on Medicare (search) and Social Security (search) reform turns his focus to domestic security saying that we stand with England and won't be frightened by terrorists. Meanwhile the House voted late Thursday to extend indefinitely the USA Patriot Act (search) with limits on two specific provisions. Carl Cameron has the details.
For more on the reauthorization of the Patriot Act, we’ll talk with Georgetown law professor, Viet Dinh, who was also the former assistant attorney general.
And from London, plainclothes police chased a man in a thick coat through a subway station today, wrestled him to the ground and shot him to death in front of stunned commuters. Simon Marks has the latest.
Then, Major Garrett looks at Judge John Roberts (search) record while in the private practice and during his years working for Kenneth Starr.
Also, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (search) arrived in Beirut today for a surprise visit, her first since Syria's troop withdrawal in April from Lebanon in the wake of domestic and U.S.-led international pressure. James Rosen reports.
And, Israeli Defense Forces (search) this week successfully defused demonstrations aimed at reaching Gaza settlements set to be evacuated next month. Does this mark the end or at least the high water mark of attempts to disrupt the process or will supporters of the settlements ratchet up their efforts in response to this setback?
