Hi, I'm Bill O'Reilly. Thank you for watching us tonight.
Now this VH1 situation is totally out of control. That is the subject of this evening's Talking Points Memo.
As you may know, VH1 runs a series called "Music Behind Bars," which so far has featured five convicted murders as well as an assortment of other heinous criminals. But now VH1 has topped out. In its upcoming segment, a man named Ron Roseborough may be featured. That thug was convicted of beating a 14-month-old baby to death in 1997 and sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Apparently the baby boy's mother was a crack addict, moved in with this Roseborough degenerate, who then brutally beat and burned the child to death. Is there anything worse than that on this earth?
We asked Essex County, New Jersey DA Donald Campolo, whose office prosecuted the case, to tell us exactly what happened. Incredibly, Mr. Campolo refused. So now there's no one speaking up for baby Michael, and his killer, Roseborough, was allowed by the state of New Jersey to play in a rock band on television.
Mr. Campolo should be ashamed of himself for failing to demonstrate moral outrage in a case like this. Campolo's decision to run and hide is flat-out disgraceful.
The commissioner of prisons in New Jersey, Devon Brown, issued this statement. "Neither the governor's office nor I authorized the filming of VH1's `Music Behind Bars.' Governor McGreevy has asked that I review the situation. I apologize sincerely to the victims and their families."
Well, that's swell. But that apology comes way too late for baby Michael. And since he had no family to care about him, VH1 does not have to face the wrath it had to face in the first two episodes of this despicable series when the parents of the murder victims condemned the network.
But it is crystal clear that VH1 does not care. And although Factor viewers have put enormous pressure on that network and its parent company, Viacom, the series continues.
So now I will not buy anything from any company that advertises on VH1 at any time. And I appeal to corporate America to put this network out of business.
In addition to the baby killer, a California killer is also featured in the latest concert. That makes seven murderers VH1 has featured in three prison rock concerts.
So where is the government? Well, the FCC is responding to complaints about partial nudity in the Victoria's Secret show. In the end, it will come down to the American people. The government can't sensor this stuff. And as long as there's a dollar to be made, some corporations will put it on.
But the next time you watch any VH1 program, I want you to think about a 14-month-old baby named Michael and the man who brutally beat and burned that baby to death.
That man is now in a rock group, and VH1 is fine with it.
