Shaken by the suicide of a barber in front of a Clarksville City Council meeting last week, a committee of the Montgomery County Commission has voted to upgrade security in its chamber.

The commission's Budget Committee voted Monday to recommend spending $217,148 to hire three full-time deputies during meetings and a new X-ray machine.

The full commission will get the recommendation next month, although it's not known which pat of the budget the money would come from.

On Oct. 4, Ronald "Bo" Ward shot himself in the head during a City Council meeting after the panel declined to rezone his property.

Mayor Johnny Piper said immediately after the incident the Council wouldn't meet again in the chamber.

Piper and schools director Mike Harris have agreed the City Council will meet in the Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools board chamber until a new, permanent location is found for the city legislative meetings.
