HOLLAND, Mich. – Hope College in Holland will remain closed a day longer because of a suspected norovirus outbreak.
The school will remain closed until 6 a.m. Wednesday. All classes, athletic events and other campus activities are canceled.
WDIV-TV reports that the Ottawa County Health Department on Sunday said about 400 of the private college's 3,200 students — along with faculty and staff — have reported symptoms including nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
The department is trying to determine whether the symptoms were caused by the contagious norovirus, which usually clears within a couple of days.
An apparent norovirus outbreak led authorities to close Blair Elementary School in Traverse City on Friday after more than two dozen children became sick Thursday.
