Among the companies whose shares are expected to see active trade in Friday's session are General Electric Co., Citigroup Inc., Motorola Inc. and Xilinx Inc.

Citigroup Inc. (C) is seen posting a fourth-quarter profit of $1 a share.

General Electric Co.'s (GE) fourth quarter is expected to show a per-share profit of 55 cents a share.

KeyCorp (KEY) is expected to post earnings of 67 cents a share in its fourth quarter.

Regions Financial Corp. (RF) is seen posting a profit of 62 cents a share in its fourth quarter.

Schlumberger Ltd.'s (SLB) fourth-quarter results are expected to show a per-share profit of 96 cents.

After Thursday's closing bell, Motorola Inc. (MOT) said its fourth-quarter profit nearly doubled as the world's second largest maker of wireless phones shipped a record 44 million handsets. See full story. See After Hours column.

California Micro Devices (CAMD) said third-quarter net income was $2.53 million, or 11 cents a share, compared with $870,000, or 4 cents a share, during the year-earlier period. The Milpitas, Calif.-based semiconductor products supplier said quarterly revenue was $19.6 million, compared with $17.8 million last year. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call had expected third-quarter revenue of $19 million.

Capital One Financial Corp. (COF) reported a 44% jump in fourth-quarter profit and forecast earnings for 2006 that were in line with analysts' expectations. See full story.

Cree Inc. (CREE) reported fiscal second-quarter net earnings of $17.7 million, or 23 cents a share, down 29% from $25 million, or 32 cents a share, in the year-ago period. The quarter included 3 cents a share in stock option expense. Revenue at the Durham, N.C.-based semiconductor maker rose 10%, to $105.6 million from $96.1 million. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call had forecast earnings of 26 cents a share on revenue of $108 million.

F5 Networks Inc. (FFIV) said first-quarter net income was $15.2 million, or 37 cents a share, compared with $9.99 million, or 26 cents a share, during the year-earlier period. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call had expected per-share earnings of 45 cents. F5 said quarterly revenue was $88.1 million, compared with $60 million last year. Analysts were looking for revenue of $87 million.

Freescale Semiconductor Inc. (FSL) reported a better-than-expected profit, helped by tighter cost controls and sales of chips used in cars and Internet networking gear. See full story.

Genesis Microchip Inc. (GNSS) reported fiscal third-quarter net earnings of $7.37 million, or 20 cents a share. In the same period last year, the company reported a net loss of $1 million, or 3 cents a share. On a pro forma basis, earnings came in at 27 cents a share compared with 9 cents a share last year. Revenue at the San Jose, Calif.-based maker of image processing systems rose 59%, to $74 million from $48.3 million, and gross margin was 48.9% vs. 44.9%. Analysts had forecast earnings of 24 cents a share on revenue of $75 million.

Hoku Scientific Inc. (HOKU) reported fiscal third-quarter net earnings of $202,000, or a penny a share. During the same period a year ago, the Kapolei, Hawaii-based based manufacturer of membrane electrode assemblies reported a net loss of $650,000, or 11 cents a share. Pro forma earnings were 3 cents a share for the quarter. Revenue rose to $1.73 million from $75,000 a year ago, the company said.

Newspaper publisher Hollinger International Inc. (HLR) will reorganize its Sun-Times News Group division in a move the company hopes will reverse the unit's "disappointing" financial performance, the company said. See full story.

Hyperion Solutions Corp. (HYSL) reported fiscal second-quarter net earnings of $15.52 million, or 25 cents a share, compared with $15.55 million, or 25 cents a share, last year. Earnings on a pro forma basis were $22.32 million, or 37 cents a share. Revenue rose to $185.5 million from $177 million in the year-ago period.

Imation Corp. (IMN) reported fourth-quarter net earnings of $18.4 million, or 52 cents a share. During the same period a year ago, the Oakdale, Minn.-based maker of data-storage products reported a net loss of $7.9 million, or 23 cents a share. Revenue rose to $343 million from $315.8 million, the company said. Separately, Imation said it has agreed to acquire Memorex International Inc. in an all-cash transaction for $330 million.

Microchip Technology Inc. (MCHP) reported fiscal third-quarter net earnings of $70.7 million, or 33 cents a share, up 41% from $53.1 million, or 25 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Revenue at the Chandler, Ariz.-based semiconductor maker rose to $234.9 million from $205.4 million, and gross margin was 59.7%. Microchip Technology also raised its quarterly dividend 18.8% to 19 cents a share.

Molex Inc. (MOLX) reported fiscal second-quarter net earnings of $58.5 million, or 31 cents a share, compared with $52.25 million, or 27 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue at the electronic components maker was $697.35 million, up from $651.82 million. Molex increased its fiscal 2006 forecast to a range of $1.15 to $1.19 a share on revenue of $2.725 billion to $2.8 billion. For the third quarter, Molex expects earnings of 28 cents to 30 cents a share on revenue of $690 million to $710 million.

Rambus Inc. (RMBS) reported fourth-quarter net earnings of $9.38 million, or 9 cents a share, compared with $6.54 million, or 6 cents a share, last year. Revenue was $41.59 million, a 7.7% increase from $38.61 million in the year-ago period.

Russell Corp. (RML) said it will restructure, impacting 2,300 positions worldwide and 1,700 in the United States. The Atlanta-based apparel maker said 1,200 jobs in the U.S. will eventually be replaced in Honduras and Mexico. In addition, Russell said it is freezing its defined benefit plan, effective April 1, and will improve its 401(k) employee savings plan. The restructuring is expected to have an after-tax cost of $45 million to $52 million, with estimated annual cost savings of $35 million to $40 million. Russell now expects 2005 earnings of 83 cents to 89 cents a share on revenue of $1.44 billion, and 2006 earnings of $1.10 to $1.25 a share, excluding restructuring charges of 66 cents a share to 78 cents a share, on revenue of $1.45 billion to $1.48 billion.

Scientific-Atlanta Inc. (SFA) said second-quarter net income was $53.4 million, or 34 cents a share, compared with $58.7 million, or 38 cents a share, during the year-earlier period. The Georgia-based provider of cable boxes said pro forma per-share income for the quarter was 44 cents, compared with 38 cents last year. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call had expected per-share earnings of 43 cents. Scientific-Atlanta said quarterly revenue was $495.2 million, compared with $441.7 million last year. Analysts were looking for revenue of $511 million.

Synaptics Inc. (SYNA) reported fiscal second-quarter net earnings of $4.8 million, or 18 cents a share, down 51% from $9.72 million, or 33 cents a share, in the year ago period. Revenue at the Santa Clara, Calif.-based maker of interface devices for computers fell to $48.6 million from $56.5 million. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call had forecast earnings of 24 cents a share on revenue of $48 million.

Supertex Inc. (SUPX) reported fiscal third-quarter net earnings of $3.69 million, or 26 cents a share, up 64% from $2.25 million, or 17 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Revenue at the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based semiconductor maker rose to $19.9 million from $14.9 million. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call had forecast earnings of 35 cents a share on revenue of $22 million.

Xilinx Inc. (XLNX) said its fiscal third-quarter net income rose 26% as it sold more chips used in communications gear and automated industrial equipment.
