NEW YORK – "Full House" actor John Stamos (search) says it's been difficult dealing with the breakup of his marriage to actress Rebecca Romijn-Stamos (search).
The couple announced their separation in April after five years of marriage, saying the split is amicable.
"It's been really hard for us," Stamos told "Access Hollywood" in a recent interview. "We talked yesterday and we were both crying on the phone. The publicity is terrible, and it just undermines the importance of our 10-year relationship."
Stamos, 40, and Romijn-Stamos, 31, met in 1994 at a Victoria's Secret fashion show (search) and began dating two months later. They married in September 1998.
"We're really good friends, and I adore her and she adores me," Stamos told the syndicated TV entertainment show. Excerpts of the interview were released Monday. "It's so weird because ... you are so crazy in love and all of a sudden weird things happen."
Stamos, who appeared on "Full House" from 1987-1995, said he believes that Mary-Kate Olsen (search), his co-star on the sitcom, is "going to be just fine."
Olsen, who shared the role of Michelle Tanner with her twin sister, Ashley, recently entered a treatment program for what her publicist called a "health-related issue."
Both People and Us Weekly have reported that 18-year-old Mary-Kate has an eating disorder.
"I just wish her well and I know Ashley is there with her and I think she is going to be just fine," Stamos said. "If this is the worst thing that can happen to them, they are still ahead of the game."
