An amateur soccer player who hoped to play the sport professionally was charged Tuesday with the stabbing death of a teen model who posed for Playboy and Cosmopolitan magazine, the Press Association reported.

Ricardo Morrison, 21, did not speak during a hearing Tuesday at the Bolton Magistrates' Court, where he was formally charged with the death of Amy Leigh Barnes, a former girlfriend.

Barnes, 19, a Miss British Isles 2007 finalist, suffered multiple stab wounds during an attack on Saturday, days after moving into her own apartment outside of Manchester, England. She died at a nearby hospital hours later, the PA reported.

"Amy Leigh was the life and soul of the party," a friend told the Times of London on Monday. "She was very popular and loved going out night after night."

Barnes recently left school to become a full-time model. In an interview with her local newspaper she said: “I want to stick with modelling now. I've been getting more work and my parents are behind me all the way.”

Morrison is due back in court on Nov. 19.
