CUMMING, Ga. – A small plane crashed beside a house Friday morning, killing the two passengers onboard, authorities said.
Forsyth County Sheriff's Department spokesman Capt. Frank Huggins said both victims were older males and one was a former commercial pilot.
The crash was so severe that the victims likely were killed instantly, he said.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the plane was a two-seat, single-engine, 1971 Cessna 150L.
The plane took off from Mathis Field, about a mile from the crash scene, and was bound for Gainesville, only a few minutes away by air. Mathis Field is located about 35 miles north of Atlanta.
The plane hit several trees before crashing, Huggins said.
"It nose-dived into a backyard and then flipped over on the side yard of an adjacent home," he said.
Forsyth County fire chief Danny Bowman said there was no one inside the house, which sustained no damage.
