Nassau, Bahamas – A shark bit the leg of an American man who was snorkeling with his wife near the island of Grand Bahama, hospital officials said.
The shark attack Thursday was the second this month on the island, about 120 miles northwest of Nassau, the capital on the main island.
A doctor in the Bahamas said the 43-year-old American had been snorkeling with his wife near Grand Bahama when the shark bit his left leg. The leg was not severed.
Hospital officials in Miami said the man was in good condition after being flown in from the Bahamas.
A spokeswoman at Jackson Memorial Hospital said the man was recovering from his injury, but declined to release his name or any other details.
On Aug. 4, American Krishna Thompson was attacked during a swim off Freeport on the south coast of Grand Bahama, where he and his wife were celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary.
The 36-year-old Wall Street banker from Central Islip, N.Y. had to have his leg amputated at the knee, but has recovered from the injuries.
