Senior Citizens Flock to Strip Club Offering Free Flu Shots

Senior citizens in one Florida town lined up Tuesday at an establishment many would normally shun: a strip club.

The draw was free flu shots and with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encouraging everyone to get immunized this year, it appeared to be an offer many seniors couldn’t refuse, the Orlando Sentinel reported Wednesday.

The club began offering the shots last week, but ran out after giving away 300. They decided to offer them again on Tuesday.

"People need the help," said club owner Jim Veigle. "That's why we do it."

Norma Smith, 77, told the newspaper she often passes by the adult club Rachel's in Casselberry, Fla. but never had the desire to go in.

So, it was with a little bit of apprehension that Smith decided to enter the dimly lit establishment. She was among dozens of elderly residents including retired couples, daughters with their octogenarian mothers and a shuttle-load from a nearby Catholic church, who were similarly enticed.

Smith, who lives alone on a fixed income, told the Orlando Sentinel, "If I'd had to come up with $15, I would've missed my shot this year."
