Robert Hakel wasn't going to sit back and watch his final years pass quietly. Instead, police say, the 66-year-old Colorado resident was at the heart of an interstate methamphetamine distribution operation.

Now Hakel, known as "Grandpa," and eight other suspects from Colorado and Arizona face numerous drug charges after a bust at Hakel's Grand Junction, Colo., apartment, police said Friday.

Three-fourths pound of methamphetamine, valued at about $35,000, was confiscated in the bust, which was conducted by federal agents and a local drug task force.

One of the people arrested, Rene Soto, 30, of Phoenix, is suspected of bringing one to two pounds of meth and sometimes cocaine to Hakel nearly every week, possibly since summer 2006.

The other suspects were arrested after seen leaving Hakel's apartment, police said.
