A military court has sentenced a second Navy sailor who pleaded guilty to conspiring with a shipmate to beat an Iraqi prisoner.

Petty Officer 2nd class Thomas Broadway was sentenced Friday in Jacksonville to 45 days confinement.

Broadway was also reduced to the lowest enlisted rank and given a bad-conduct discharge. Based on the pretrial agreement that led to his plea and the fact that his tour of duty ended in December, the 10-year veteran won't actually receive the bad-conduct discharge.

Broadway pleaded guilty to joining with Seaman Trevor Slane in punching and kicking a handcuffed Iraqi detainee. The Navymen, who were stationed on a Mayport, Fla.-based ship, were supposed to be guarding the detainee at Camp Bucca, Iraq.

The men said the detainee had thrown feces on Slane.
