A missing 6-year-old boy was found alive Tuesday afternoon after spending the night in the woods in rural northeastern Minnesota.

Jacob Lagerquist was reported missing from his home at about 7:30 p.m. Monday, the St. Louis County sheriff's office said.

Family members reported last seeing him around 6:15 p.m. They believe he wandered off toward a wooded area on the property about seven miles south of Biwabik, the sheriff's office said.

Authorities started a ground and air search for Jacob, and searchers found him Tuesday afternoon about a half mile from his family home, sheriff's Lt. Ed Kippley said.

"They were in the woods and they called his name and he answered," Kippley said.

Jacob suffered bug bites and was a little dehydrated but otherwise was doing well, he said.
