An Australian scientist was infected with dengue fever while working in a laboratory, the Australian Associated Press reported.
Health officials are not exactly sure how the scientist caught the virus.
“The most likely scenario is that he’s been infected by some of the dengue virus he was working with,” said Dr. Jeannette Young, chief health officer of Queensland Health in Australia.
The scientist, who was working within the dengue fever eradication program, was taken to the hospital, but has since been released.
Young said all scientists working within eradication program will now wear extra protective gear as a precautionary measure. Health officials say there is no risk to public.
