ISTANBUL, Turkey – A bus full of second-graders crashed into a truck in central Turkey Saturday, killing at least 32 people, most of them children, the government-owned Anatolia news agency said.
The bus was bringing the children from Izmir, a city on the Turkish Aegean, to Cappadocia, a popular tourist spot in central Turkey known for its unusual geological formations.
The crash occurred on a highway near the city of Aksaray, close to Cappadocia, but it was unclear how it happened. The bus had left Izmir on Friday night for an overnight trip, and an assistant bus driver who survived said he was asleep at the time of the crash, Anatolia said.
Aksaray Governor Sebati Buyuran said the number of dead was 32, Anatolia reported. Thirty other people were injured, he said.
