Sandra Bullock and The Rock, not in the same movie but in the same multiplex this weekend in the harsh glare of The Foxlight.

Sandra Bullock produces her own movies these days so she only has herself to blame for something like Murder by Numbers. Maybe it should be called "Movie by Numbers." You'll see everything coming 1, 2, 3. Bullock's a cop investigating a murder that two snarky teens have committed. Ben Chaplin is the partner she bosses around in bed. That's supposed to be an interesting twist. Most critics agree, Bullock is a winning actress, but these numbers just don't add up.

That leaves special effects by numbers  lots of them. The Rock is The Scorpion King. He reprises the cameo role he had in The Mummy and turns it into a whole movie. Is that good? Well, it all moves so fast it probably doesn't matter. But here's something I never thought I'd say: I kind of miss Brendan Fraser.

Better than both of these is last week's number one Changing Lanes with what most agree is Ben Affleck's best performance ever.
