On this vote, a yes vote was a vote to advance the nomination and a no vote was a vote to delay advancing it.
Voting yes were 3 Democrats and 53 Republicans.
Voting no were 40 Democrats, 1 Republican and 1 independent.
Sen. Bill Frist (search), R-Tenn., voted against the measure only because that gave him the procedural right to force the Senate to vote again on the issue.
