Report: U.S. Military Kills Iraqi Boy Suspected of Throwing Grenade
U.S. forces said Saturday it shot and killed a 12-year-old Iraqi boy suspected of throwing a grenade at them in Mosul, Reuters reported.
The U.S. military, which said it came under attack in the western part of Mosul on Thursday, claims the boy was paid by insurgents to throw a grenade at U.S. and Iraqi troops, according to Reuters.
But the Iraqi police have reportedly disputed that account, saying the boy, whom they named as Omar Moussa Salih, played no part in the grenade-throwing.
They say Omar, who was shot more than once in the head by U.S. troops, sold candy on the street of Mosul — a northern city said to be one of the final Al Qaeda strongholds in Iraq.
