Report: Senate Aide Says No Economic Stimulus Bill This Week

WASHINGTON – An economic stimulus bill that President-elect Obama is looking for Congress to pass promptly is not likely to be approved by the Senate during its legislative session this week, an aide to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told Reuters on Monday.

Reid spokesman Jim Manley blamed Republican opposition for the likely failure of a broad stimulus package, but said he was hopeful that the Senate would pass legislation extending jobless benefits for the long-term unemployed, Reuters reported.
