A fugitive Las Vegas priest wanted on charges of attempted murder and sexual assault was allegedly spotted yesterday in Monterey County, California, police say.

The Rev. George Chaanine, 52, was reportedly seen around 1 p.m. Tuesday, a Monterey County sheriff's deputy reported.

Chaanine is described as Caucasian, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 145 pounds, reported the Monterey Herald.

Press reports indicate Chaanine was driving a white or cream-colored 2005 Buick Le Sabre with Nevada plates 732RRM.

A Las Vegas judge issued a warrant for his arrest on various charges in an attack on a female church employee Friday.

Chaanine faces additional charges of battery with a deadly weapon, battery with intent to commit sex assault and kidnapping in the attack, police said.

Police said the victim was beaten in the head with a blunt object. Investigators said the attack had ''sexual connotations'' but the woman was not sexually assaulted.
