His talk show has never won a Daytime Emmy, but now Regis Philbin will be singled out with a lifetime achievement award.

Kelly Ripa joked on "Live With Regis and Kelly" that Philbin is being honored only because the TV Academy thinks his show "is never going to be good enough to win." Philbin added that it's "kind of like what it sounds like."

Philbin says a lifetime award makes it seem like his career is over, that you take your award "and go slowly into oblivion."

All jokes aside, Philbin said the honor is "quite a thrill" and he appreciates it "very, very much."

He'll get his award at the Daytime Emmys on June 20th in Los Angeles.

Philbin (born Regis Francis Xavier Philbin) has won an individual Daytime Emmy for the hosting of his show for the period between Kathie Lee Gifford and Kelly Ripa.
