A Saturday concert by rock band R.E.M. (search) at London's Hyde Park has been postponed in the wake of the bombing attacks in the British capital that killed more than 50 people.

The band was in London when the attacks occurred during Thursday's morning rush hour.

"Our hotel is overlooking Hyde Park (search), so we're kind of in the middle of the city. ... It's been a sad day," said Bertis Downs, the band's manager.

The concert was postponed by the Safety Advisory Group for Hyde Park and has been rescheduled for July 16.

The delay comes at the tail end of R.E.M.'s tour, which started last fall, and will force the band to extend its tour an extra week. Though the band is eager to get home, in the wake of Thursday's attacks, Downs said it was a small price to pay.

Earlier this week, the band played in Hull and Nottingham, cities north of London, following a performance at the Live 8 (search) concert in Hyde Park last Saturday.
