It's quitting time for another embattled Democrat. Massachusetts Congressman Bill Delahunt announced late Thursday night that he will not seek re-election. The Boston Globe reports that the seven-term congressman is now the 17th House Democrat running scared ahead of the 2010 midterm elections.

His decision not to run comes amidst allegations that he mishandled a 1986 shooting case while he was serving as district attorney. In that case, Delahunt chose not to file charges after Amy Bishop shot her brother, claiming it was an accident. Delahunt reportedly dismissed evidence to the contrary that was provided by police reports and eyewitness accounts.

Bishop, as we know, went on a shooting rampage earlier this month at the University of Alabama, killing three of her coworkers. Delahunt told the Boston Globe that this controversy had nothing at all to do with his decision.

I find that a little hard to believe, don't you?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's weekly press conference gave her a chance to put her hypocrisy on display. The San Francisco speaker attacked Kentucky Senator Jim Bunning for forcing the Democrats to live up to their own standards, specifically the pay-as-you-go legislation that the president himself signed into law last month:

NANCY PELOSI, D-CALIF., SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE: Jim Bunning, witness that one senator could hold up unemployment checks from people in our country who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own. The list goes on and on about what he has held up, because one senator made an objection. What has happened in the last year, in the past year in the United States Senate, is a total obstruction by the Republican senators.

Interestingly, Pelosi has backed pay-as-you-go legislation for years — 2005 to be exact. Bunning was merely trying to make the Democrats abide by what they supported.

If Democrats can't even meet their own standards, how in the world do they expect to meet the standards of you, the American people?

Bad Judgment

Another Obama judicial nominee is raising eyebrows both for his radical statements and his lack of experience.

This time it is Goodwin Liu, whom the president has nominated to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Liu practiced law for only three years before going into academia, but the American Bar Association says that federal judges should have at least 12 years of practical experience.

Liu issued some bizarre attacks against John Roberts back in 2005. He wrote that the Chief Justice "belonged to… the National Legal Center for the Public Interest… whose mission is to promote… 'free enterprise,' 'private ownership for property' and limited government. These are code words for an ideological agenda hostile to an environmental workplace and consumer protections."

Now wait a minute, sounds to me like it's Liu who is hostile to free enterprise, private property and limited government. Just what we want in a judge, right?

Suing the Weather

In the Meltdown, a group of Southern Mississippi residents are blaming, what else, global warming for Hurricane Katrina this time.

According to the London Telegraph, they have filed a lawsuit seeking punitive damages from companies they say helped cause the deadly storm. The suit was filed in 2005, but details about the case have only recently been uncovered.

The plaintiffs say that companies like Shell, Exxon Mobile and Chevron's "operation of energy fossil fuels and chemical industries in the United States caused the emission of greenhouse gases that contributed to global warming."

That's strange. All this time Democrats have been telling me that Hurricane Katrina was George Bush's fault. I guess they found the real culprit.
