LISBON, Portugal – Portugal's attorney-general says he has asked prosecutors to decide by the end of the month on whether to close the investigation into the disappearance of British child Madeleine McCann.
Prosecutors are examining the final police report on the case of McCann who disappeared in Portugal during a family vacation May 3, 2007, a few days before her fourth birthday.
Detectives have named the girl's parents and a local man as formal suspects. They all deny involvement.
Attorney-General Fernando Pinto Monteiro said Friday he wants prosecutors to decide by the end of July whether to halt the investigation or ask police to make further inquiries.
The official judicial secrecy period granting confidentiality to the police investigation ends in mid-August.
