A pregnant woman who was raped jumped out of a moving vehicle in order to escape her attacker, police said Saturday.

The woman, who is five months pregnant, was attacked after returning to her southwest Houston apartment complex around 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

The attacker, whose name was not immediately released, approached the woman in the parking lot, holding a knife to her stomach, said Houston Police Department spokeswoman Joanna Abad.

The man blindfolded the woman and took her into an apartment, where he raped her, Abad said.

After the assault, he drove her to an ATM to withdraw money. As he was driving, the woman jumped from the moving vehicle, police said.

The attacker was arrested by police after returning to the apartment complex.

The pregnant woman was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where she was reported in stable condition.

Abad said the man faces charges of aggravated sexual assault with a weapon and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
