LOS ANGELES – Finally — somebody wants to give Britney Spears a break.
Pop Tarts has been told that even though she isn’t exactly fur-iendly to PETA when it comes to not wearing fur, the animal rights organization has removed the pop princess from its Worst Dressed Poll.
PETA launched its Annual Worst Dressed Celebrity poll at furisdead.com late last week, and Britney slaughtered the competition to take an early lead.
However, on Monday afternoon, PETA decided to remove Miss Spears from the running — after all, she might not be sanely responsible for her actions (which include wearing fur).
"People with lil' kids shouldn't dress like Lil' Kim," said PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews after making the decision. "But at this point, Britney needs a break — from everybody. Maybe when her head is clear, she'll have a change of heart about wearing fur. If not, we'll be back biting at her heels."
And with the Britster out, that leaves Kate Moss barking at the lead.
“Nothing completes the transition from supermodel to super tramp like a fur coat,” added Mathews.
Other tipped to take the not so coveted crown include Lindsay Lohan, Kate Bosworth, Kobe Bryant, Kid Rock, Mary J. Blige, Eva Longoria, the Olsen twins and Vanessa Williams.

Lindsay Lohan sure knows how to pick ‘em … Italian waiter Alessandro di Nunzio (who gained fame by cavorting in Capri with the “Mean Girl” last week) has supposedly spoken out about their purported romantic romps, leaving nothing to the imagination.
According to di Nunzio, not only was Lohan “extremely flexible and adventurous" behind closed doors, she was also “sweet and loving."
“She was wearing mismatched underwear — a black bra with emerald green French knickers,” Nunzio also reportedly told U.K.’s News of the World.
Goodness — when will Lohan learn to choose a beau who doesn’t have a big mouth? This isn’t the first time a purported Linds lover has exposed dirty details to the press. Last year, “Girls Gone Wild” founder turned prisoner Joe Francis gave her romping a report, as did her most recent romantic partner Riley Giles, who also reportedly spoke out about their positions and practices after their break-up to News of the World.

There are days where I really don’t want people to see me because I don’t want to have to put makeup on and cover up; I just want to run to the grocery store and pet food store really quickly. But I think if I’m respectful with the paparazzi they’re usually respectful with me. And if I say ‘Guys, can you back off today?' they don’t go away but they’re not so in-your-face.”
The pressure of being a Hollywood hottie:
“Five or so years ago I worked, I was able to pay the bills and there was always pressure to get work to pay the bills. It’s a different kind of pressure now. Now I’m fortunate enough to be given the work, but now there is an expectation that you want to fulfill for people to give people what they want, so that’s a little scary.”
On what she will miss most if the Globes don’t go ahead: (This interview took place before Monday's decision to turn the Globes into the press conference.)
“SAG has asked us not to cross picket lines and I respect that, and I have had a really hard time not crossing the picket line. But I’m very hopeful that the Globes will get a waiver, because I want to go, I really want to party there too — it’s an awesome night and I’m really excited because it's awesome, the best party.”
But given the latest that the star-studded ceremony scheduled for Sunday has been reduced to a press conference, Heigl will have to save herself for the SAG Awards.
