Police pried open a window and discovered the bodies of two adults and two children in a murder-suicide in a Salt Lake City suburb.

The bodies were found inside a house Monday night after the 28-year-old woman's sister had not heard from her for a week or more, Police Chief Chris Snyder said Tuesday.

Officers cracked open a window, noticed a foul odor and discovered the bodies. The children were girls, ages 10 and 1.

"It appeared that all the parties were victims of multiple gunshot wounds with the exception of the male," Snyder said. "He appeared to have one self-inflicted gunshot wound. There was also a suicide note that appeared to have been written and left by the male."

No names were released. The man was 34 years old.

Police went to the house Saturday to check on the woman but no one answered the door, Snyder said.
